Professional Hedge Trimming Across the West Midlands
We trim and cut all types of hedges including privet, conifer hedges, English Yew tree hedges, mixed native hedging, beech, box and cherry laurel hedging.
Our specialists are able to shape and maintain plants whether they are used for low hedges and edging or dense evergreen shrubs.
We work safely, carefully and charge sensible prices.
We can also prune trees whilst at your home making your garden care as cost – effective as possible. We require no deposits, clear all waste and debris away (with natural waste recycled wherever possible) and only ask for payment on completion of the work.
We can also discuss with you whether your hedges are fit for your preferred purpose. For example are thorns an ideal intruder deterrent or are they not desired as they can scratch children or pets. Where hedges are not required or desirable they can be removed completely.
We work all over the West Midlands and Staffordshire including Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, Tamworth and Lichfield.
Leylandii Hedge Trimming and Height Reduction
Leylandii is the most commonly trimmed hedge in Sutton Coldfield — fast-growing, dense and widely used for privacy, but it can become overwhelming quickly if left unchecked. The longer between cuts, the more extreme the reduction needs to be.
A key concern for most customers is how much can be removed safely. For leylandii, we can reduce by up to a third of the current height or width in a single cut — and we never cut into old brown wood, which leads to permanent die-back that the hedge cannot recover from.
Height reduction is our most common hedge request — "it's got too tall" or "it's blocking the light next door" are phrases we hear every week. Annual trimming is ideal for leylandii; we carry out height reductions, side trimming and full reshaping to keep your hedge manageable and your neighbours happy.
We recently trimmed a conifer hedge in Walmley ready for the summer — a typical example of the neat, controlled finish we aim for on every leylandii job.
Laurel Hedge Trimming
Cherry laurel is a common garden boundary hedge across Sutton Coldfield — broad-leafed, evergreen and capable of growing very wide as well as tall if not kept in check.
Laurel is best cut with secateurs or loppers on individual leaves rather than a mechanical hedge trimmer. Using a trimmer causes half-cut brown leaves which look unsightly and take months to drop. We cut laurel properly to preserve a clean, healthy appearance.
Overgrown laurel hedges can often be hard-pruned back to old wood and will regrow well — unlike conifers, which will not recover from the same treatment. If your laurel has got out of hand, we can assess it on site and advise on the best approach.
Complete Hedge Removal
Sometimes a hedge needs removing entirely — it may be dead, overgrown beyond recovery, or the garden layout is changing and the hedge no longer serves its purpose.
We remove hedges of any size and species, including the root system where practical. Stump grinding is available for stubborn hedge stools, particularly leylandii and laurel where the stumps can be large and persistent.
After removal the area is cleared of all debris — customers frequently comment that it looks as though the hedge was never there. If you are replacing the hedge with something new, we can advise on suitable species for your boundary and soil conditions.
Hedge Trimming You Can Trust
From a single boundary trim to a full hedge removal, we work carefully, leave no mess, and never ask for payment until you are satisfied with the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions from customers across Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield and Tamworth.
How short can you cut my leylandii hedge?
For leylandii, we can safely reduce by up to a third of the current height or width. Cutting further — especially into old brown wood — causes permanent browning that the hedge cannot recover from. If your leylandii has been neglected for several years, we'll advise on a realistic target and a staged approach over 2–3 seasons.
When is the best time to trim a hedge?
For most hedges, late summer (August–September) after nesting season and before winter is ideal. For leylandii and conifers, we can trim throughout the season. We avoid cutting during active bird nesting (March–July) unless essential.
Do you clear all the clippings away?
Yes — we take all clippings and debris with us as part of the service. Natural hedge waste is composted or chipped wherever possible.
Can you take on a regular trimming schedule?
Yes. Several of our customers have us back once or twice a year to keep their hedges in shape. Call us to discuss a maintenance arrangement.
